Hi, I’m Matt, and this is my blog - Music Thought House. The idea for this site came from being overly frustrated when I searched for music information and advice online. While there were plenty of sites, I always felt that they were so complex and full of jargon that I would need a music degree to fully understand them. While that is great for some, the majority of us just need so simple explanations and recommendations. My aim is to explain music gear, production ideas and music history in a way that all who read can understand straight away - useful not academic
Why I Started Music Thought House
A lot of music articles and sites online are useful but it can also feel like it is written for people who already know the answer.
Music Thought House is me having a go at being the and doing the opposite. I want to take topics that can feel complicated, break them down into simple to understand words. The goal is to make the subject easier to understand then any other place on the internet.
I don't spend my time writing just to try and sound intelligent. My goal is to be useful.
About Me
I’m Matt, and I’m based in Sydney, Australia. I am married and I have a young daughter who is starting her own musical journey with singing and the piano.
This is important because it reminds me what music should feel like at the beginning. It should feel like opening a door to a new world - interesting, exciting... maybe even dangerous. It should not feel like a never ending list of things to remember or that you are in a box until all is learnt.
I have played guitar for most of my life, written music and spent a lot of time trying to understand how sounds, songs and gear all fit together. I'm still learning and that is also part of the blogs purpose - I might as well share what I find out.
